As Germany is currently one of the global leaders in the development and application of renewable energy, the German government introduced the first large scale feed-in tier system, under a law known as the EEG (Erneuerbare Energien Gesetz) which resulted in the substantial growth of photovoltaic (PV) installations in Germany, the principle behind the German systems is a 20 year flat rate contract.
